Digital health technologies revolutionizing vaccine safety monitoring

Introduction :

Now-a-days digital technology is playing a vital role in the every part of life, these digital technologies are being used frequently by the health care professionals.digital technology is a system that include mobiles, computers to gather the information about the adverse event in a patient who received the vaccine.

According to WHO the digital health technologies can be defined as a feild of knowledge and use of computers, software to ensure & promote healthy lives to everyone of all ages.

During covid -19 digital health has major part to access better health outcomes and also for identifying mortality rate.

The pandemic time has particularly highlighted the importance of the application of digital technologies to health and its potential to strengthen health systems, prevent disease and enhance service delivery at the global, national and sub-national level.

Digital technologies used for the vaccine safety include the following :

  1. Real time monitoring               It include mobiles online portals electronic data.

  2. Big data analytics                  Data from different source {emr ecr researchers e.t.c}

  3. Remote monitoring         it has items such as wearable divices{ smart watches }/     sensors

  4. Block chain technology

  5. Artificial intelligence

Real time monitoring:

Here the adverse event can be monitored by digital platforms.

It can be done by using mobiles, online portals, electronic health records by these  health care provider can report and track the event .

Real-time monitoring in vaccine safety involves continuously tracking and analyzing data as vaccines are administered to identify any potential safety issues or adverse events as they occur. This proactive approach allows for rapid detection and response to any concerning trends or signals, helping to ensure the ongoing safety of vaccination programs. Real-time monitoring systems often utilize electronic health records, surveillance databases, and other digital platforms to collect and analyze data in real-time, enabling public health authorities to take timely action to protect the population.

Big data analytics:

In this technology it helps to identify the trends and practice of vaccine safety data. Here by collecting large data from different sources such as electroinic records{data is directly obtianed from patient and entered onto system}, researchers, social media then it enables us to detect the safety signals and assess the overall safety about the vaccine.

Big data analytics in vaccine safety involves the use of large volumes of diverse data sources to identify patterns, trends, and correlations related to vaccine administration and safety. By analyzing data from sources such as electronic health records, vaccine registries, adverse event reporting systems, social media, and other sources, researchers and public health authorities can gain insights into vaccine safety in real-world settings. This approach allows for the detection of rare adverse events, identification of subpopulations at higher risk, and assessment of vaccine effectiveness on a large scale. Big data analytics play a crucial role in enhancing vaccine safety monitoring and informing public health policy decisions.

Remote monitoring:

This method use the telemedicine and wearable devices, such that this allow to monitor remotely about health status. This helped early detection of the event of vaccine and to facilliate timely intervention.

The pandemic time has particularly highlighted the importance of the application of digital technologies to health and its potential to strengthen health systems, prevent disease and enhance service delivery at the global, national and sub-national level.

Block chain technology

This technology will enhance the security and integration of vaccine safety data by providing a decentralized and immutable ledger. By ensuring that vaccine-related information is tamper-proof and transparent, blockchain enhances trust and accountability in vaccine safety monitoring systems.

One of these new digital technologies, has special qualities like immutability, decentralization, and transparency that can be helpful in many different areas including managing electronic medical data and access rights, as well as mobile health.

Artificial Intelligence (AI):

AI-powered algorithms can analyze vast amounts of vaccine safety data and identify potential safety concerns more efficiently than traditional methods.

AI can assist in predicting adverse events based on individual characteristics and medical history, enabling personalized risk assessment and management.

Conclusion :

Application of the digital technologies on vaccine safety monitoring helps in the easy identification of adverse event caused by the vaccine in the subjects.

These technologies help widely to detect the event And to provide the immediate intervention . Applying of digital technologies on the safety assessment will help in the healthcare professionals, researchers & others for providing the better intervention.
